Howth Golf CourseLocation: - Dublin Course: - 18 Holes, 6239 yards, Par 72 Once in Dublin it is hard to miss Howth Head. As you would expect of a golf course perched on top of a peninsula that juts out into the Irish Sea and overlooks Dublin Bay, Howth Golf Club offers players some spectacular views. In fact as if to confirm that this part of Dublin is very much golfing country, it is possible to view six others courses - Portmarnock, Sutton, Deer Park, St Anne's and Royal Dublin- from the very first fairway, a hole known as "Irelands Eye", without straining your eyes. Spectacular views apart, Howth is a hilly golf course with much gorse and heather. For anyone who is walking, it is quite a physically demanding course. There are also a number of blind tee shots but, despite the proliferation of heather in relatively close proximity to the fairways, the landing areas tend to be quite generous. On the outward journey, the dogleg par 4, 5th hole allows little room for error, with the trademark heather dominating the left side. However it is the back nine that is most agreeable. The 13th hole, an uphill par 4 measuring 324 yards with a cluster of trees awaiting any pulled tee shots, is a fine hole. While the 15th called Furnan's is a delightful hole that overlooks the Bay and has views across tot eh Wicklow Mountains. You may be feeling rather tired by the time you finally reach the clubhouse, but a hot shower and good food should help make memories of this unique hillside course all the fonder. Facilities at Howth Golf Club: - Changing rooms and showers, full catering, bar, pro shop, club hire, trolley hire.
