Malahide Golf Club

Location:- County Dublin

Set on Dublin's golden North Coast in the beautiful seaside resort of Malahide, Eddie Hackett has designed 27 holes of classic quality combining the pleasant ambiance of parkland with the climate elements of a seaside links. The three seperate nine holes loops can be divided into any 18 holes that will offer a magnificent round of golf. All three finishing holes are suberb and bring you nicely into the fine clubhouse.

Deceptively simple and charming in design each hole presents the unwitting golfer with its own wily challenge, needing careful alignment on the many doglegs or navigating shots over the water hazards. The 4th hole on the Beechwood nine is an excellent example and with the wind in your favour you could even drive the green some 290 yards away from the tee box. Many of the other holes feature raised greens, water hazards and require accurate club selection with good shot judgement.

Colm Murphy, the superintendent (Green keeper), recently won first prize in the north east of Ireland section of the 'Toro professional Golf Club Management in Ireland competition.

Malahide Golf Club, one of Ireland's oldest golf clubs, was founded in 1892 by Nathaniel Hone R.H.A. reputedly the greatest Irish landscape painter of the period. He was Captain of the Club from 1892 to 1896 while his close friend Richard Wogan, 5th Baron Talbot de Malahide was the Club's first President holding that office from 1892 to his death in 1921.

The magnificent clubhouse overlooks the golf course with panoramic views across the city to the Dublin Mountains. The facilities in The clubhouse are always maintained, to a very high standard and include a large bar and a top class restaurant. The bar and restaurant open out onto a large balcony for use on fine days.

The restaurant overlooks the course with a panoramic view across the city to the Dublin mountains, and makes dining a memorable occasion. Their motto is "A light heart and cheerful spirit", so to play, dine and relax with friends, afterwards there is no finer venue.

The club has a proud history and although opened in 1892 Malahide moved to its new location in 1990. Distinguished players include Tom Craddock, Walker Cup player and Philip Walton, European Ryder Cup hero at Oakhill in 1995.
