Angling at Mount Juliet

In a country famous for the quality of its angling, it is still rare for visitors to achieve the combination of delights found at Mount Juliet. The peacefulness of the demesne combines with miles of private waters on the River Nore and its tributary, the Kings River.

Unexploited for four decades, these waters, with their designated beats, now deliver the sort of yield that many anglers crave. This is game angling at its very best, with wild Atlantic salmon and brown trout angling, guaranteeing an exhilarating experience for the many anglers who have discovered the estate. Mount Juliet hosted the annual Worldwide Trout Open in 1999, providing further endorsement of the quality of angling on the estate.

Horse Riding at Mount Juliet.

Close to Mount Juliet House, the sound of horses hooves echoes in the cobbled yard of the Iris Kellett Equestrian Centre. Here horses and ponies are available for basic or advanced tuition, as well as for trail riding, cross country jumping and show jumping activities.

Mount Juliet has always been synonymous with bloodstock, being the place where the McCalmont family, former owners of the estate, bred many influential stallions.

Within the boundaries of the demesne is Ballylinch Stud, founded in 1914 by Major Dermot McCalmont. Today this stud provides a world-class facility, housing an exceptional band of brood mares. It is little wonder that the Ballylinch tradition continues to create success on racecourses around the world.
