Tramore Golf CourseLocation:- Waterford Designer:- Captain H. C. Tippett 6660 yards par 72 Tramore Golf Club was founded 110 years ago in 1894 on a piece of a land adjoining Tramore's old race course in the Back Strand. It was originally opened as a 9 hole links course, but unfortunately the course was battered by raging storms, with the sea bursting through the dam between the course and Back Strand on many occasions. The constant threat from the fury of the sea forced the club to move progressively inland, and finally, in early 1939, Tramore Golf Club relocated to their present site on Newtown Hill, with its opening marked by an exhibition fourball consisting of the legendary Joe Brown, John Burke, Paddy Mahon and Jimmy Bruen. In the eye of many locals, the ground upon which the club planned to build their course was only fit for snipe shooting, but undaunted by this the club engaged Captain H. C. Tippett, who designed a course that not even the great golf architect Commander Harris could fault. Not much has changed about Tramore Golf Course since it was originally constructed, with it now maturing into one of the greats after less than half a century, and in 1987 it was awarded the first of its Irish Close Championships At just under 6,700 yards, Tramore is a fair test for golfers of all abilities - but don't be fooled by its undeniable beauty, all it takes is one stray shot to ruin a potentially respectable scorecard and leave you thinking if only. Location:- Tramore Golf Club is situated on the outskirts of Tramore, a small but beautiful seaside resort, located only 10 miles outside the port city of Waterford From Waterford, take the Tramore Road. Go straight through the first 2 round abouts and up Galweys Hill. Continue along this road for about half a mile, past the Spar at crossroads and up Newtown Hill. The entrance to Tramore Golf Club is located about 400m up the hill on your right. From Dungarvan, follow the coast road to Tramore. As you enter Tramore, you are brought to the top of Newtown Hill. The entrance to Tramore Golf Club is about 50m down Newtown Hill on your left.
